Parking and Stopping Rules
- 1/23If you stop or park within 5 meters of an intersection
Moroccan law prohibits parking or stopping close to intersections to preserve driver sightlines. Violations create traffic blockages and hazards for turning vehicles.
When parking next to a fire hydrant
Vehicles must not park near fire hydrants. Access needs to remain clear at all times for emergency services, and violations risk fines or towing.
Parking at marked bus stops or stations
It is illegal to park or stop at designated bus stops. These areas are reserved for buses, and blocking them disrupts public transport and causes congestion.
Parking on sidewalks or pedestrian paths
Moroccan rules strictly prohibit stopping or parking on sidewalks. Blocking pedestrian areas endangers walkers and subjects vehicles to immediate enforcement.
If parking in front of the main entrance to a building
Vehicles may not park before building entrances. Such act restricts emergency exit and impedes resident or guest access.
When parking in a designated permit-only zone
Permit zones require visible, valid authorities-issued stickers. Parking without permit subjects vehicles to fines and possible removal.
At parking spaces with posted restrictions
Drivers must observe posted time limits for marked parking spots. Exceeding permitted hours results in fines and tighter future enforcement.
Parking in disabled parking spaces
Disabled parking bays are reserved for vehicles with a valid permit only. Unauthorized use is subject to penalties and removal by officials.
When stopping at a marked pedestrian crossing
Stopping or parking on crossings for pedestrians is strictly forbidden. Such blockage endangers safety and attracts immediate punishment.
On bridges, tunnels, or underpasses
Stopping or parking on Moroccan bridges, inside tunnels, or under overpasses is illegal due to heightened accident risk and restricted access.
If stopping behind a parked school bus at pickup/drop-off times
Drivers must leave adequate gap behind school buses at stops for safe loading and unloading, following clear road signs and supervisor instructions.
At yellow-painted curbs or clearly marked no-parking zones
Yellow curbs and signage indicate strict no-parking zones for emergencies or traffic needs. Parking at these locations risks fines or towing.
If you park in loading and unloading zones reserved for commercial vehicles
Parking in such zones is only for vehicles loading or unloading goods during posted hours. Any unauthorized parking may be penalized.
Stopping in front of an active garage or driveway
Vehicles blocking garage entrances or driveways restrict property access and may be reported or removed by owners and authorities.
Parking at street corners or narrow turns
Parking too close to corners or on bends disrupts flow and reduces safety for drivers executing turns. Proper sightlines must always be kept clear.
If you want to park on stretches of road marked for emergency use
These sections are reserved for ambulances, fire trucks, or police vehicles only. Unauthorized stopping interrupts emergency access and can be fined.
In areas signed for short-term parking only
Only brief stops are allowed per posted times, often for deliveries or pickups. Exceeding limits will be enforced by municipal authorities.
When stopping at an intersection with visibility hazards
Parking at locations with poor visibility near junctions, crossings, or curves puts all road users at risk and is not permitted in Moroccan traffic law.
On roads with double yellow lines or continuous curb painting
Continuous or double lines at curbside mean parking and stopping is fully forbidden for all vehicles at any hour, to preserve traffic flow and clearance.
Parking in private lots or spaces without express authorization
Parking in private or reserved areas (hotel, apartments, businesses) requires explicit permission or a displayed permit. Unauthorized vehicles may be towed.
If stopped in median strips or traffic islands
Stopping or parking in medians or islands disrupts traffic separation and is not permitted anywhere on Moroccan roads.
At specially marked resident zones in urban areas
Resident zones require a valid residential permit. These areas are prioritized for locals, and outsiders parking there risk enforcement.
When parking at airport or train station
These lanes are for brief drop-off and pickup only. Extended parking is not allowed and typically subject to strict time enforcement or penalties.
